I actually rather like effete male characters who like fashion. I think they're generally fun, and if the artist has a good fashion sense, then its great to see them in all their cute outfits. But man, femboys and the reddit tier reaction to them just ruin most modern femboys and femboy adjacents. I love Kuranosuke's gyaru fashion, but the sheer amount of tranny coping is hard to look at.

I'm a serial minor character fixator and I do it for both male and female characters, however for the almond to activate over a female character she has to have a genuinely cool/cute design with little to no fanservice and not be a love interest to a guy. This is my criteria for fave female characters in general and you'd be surprised how many get struck out by these two categories alone. If it's a main character I'll also need them to get to do plot relevant stuff without being sidelined in favour of a guy (common with shonen heroines) but extremely minor characters don't need much other than to look cool and have the hint of a neat concept.
I'm also less likely to become fixated if there's no shipping options (F/F in the case of girls). That's the difference between 'character I just want to draw fan art of' and 'character I will write fic about'. I will say that it's easy to find obscure girls who are cute, but interesting quirks/personalities are less common, especially in gachashit, where blandness is default. It's almost easier when you have a total blank slate such as a cute generic NPC Pokemon Trainer class design, then the sandbox is yours.

Despite its popularity in Japan Demon Slayer never got big with fujos, or even a lot of fish period compared to JJK. I think Naruto wound up being an exception with how it still has a ton of fans who get into it or oldfags who still have nostalgia for it, while most fans also seem to ignore Boruto completely.

Yeah, the love triangle is a Macross thing. You can try Macross Plus (the movie edition) - it's short, mostly cool fights, sakuga and a neat story about AI music; the love 'triangle' (if you can call it that) is kept to a minimum.

If two characters aren't literally the same age (visibly) with nearly the exact same height, they lose it. I know, it's stupid for hsr because the vast majority of the cast are chinese cultivators when it comes to aging. As for the bully/victim works, you're right, I don't see them a lot…But tastes change with age too so not really looking for them either. I remember enjoying Caste Heaven around the mid-2010s or so, afair it had some shuffling around with bully/victim power dynamics.

Tbh I like BL best when they act unrealistic. When they act like irl gay men, it's not BL anymore. If you've ever spoken to a gay man, they tend to be annoying, mean, and needlessly particular… I wouldn't want that in a manga unless the author was setting that person up to get their shit kicked in.

It's freeing as an author to focus on what you want to do instead of worrying about representation or this and that. There's an entire world of gay literature to dive into, but most people who complain about unrealistic BL just want to complain or act holier-than-thou.
