I usually bypass that entirely by mentioning the character speaks with a specific accent and then take time to incorporate specific slang or other characteristics. The important thing is just to not write it out phonetically.

> "Let's go to the general store."

> "Le's go t' the general store."

It's a slightly exaggerated example, but when it comes to writing like this, phonetic writing like the second line is unnecessary because the characters are still speaking all the same words as the first. They're just pronounced differently. But just like Americans and Canadians pronounce "sorry" slightly differently ("sarree" vs "sorree"), we don't spell it differently as "sorree" when a Canadian says it, because it's the same word.
But incorporating local slang usually gets the point across well. When I read a line like this
> "Sorry but I ain't gonna do that, bud."
As a Canadian, I can't not read it in a Canadian accent Especially if you happened to mention he was Canadian beforehand.

Ah thank you for the insight, I think one of the things that I struggle with is that when I read I don't hear the character voices in my head, so even if I'm told "This character is x" that doesn't reflect in my reading of the dialogue. I think I'm going to try to look for some regional slang to compensate then.

What is a Round Robin?

>A round-robin story, or simply "round robin", is a type of collaborative fiction or storytelling in which a number of authors write chapters of a novel or pieces of a story, in rounds.

Basically, anyone can write 1-3 paragraphs, continuing the story. It's not a role play, so you don't need to worry about playing characters.

Have fun, and we'll see where this goes!

Lightning crashed outside the window and startled Allendale so badly that he flinched.

The rain pounded on his bedroom window, so violently that Allendale got up and checked to make sure that it wasn't hail. He leaned his forehead against the cool glass.

How long had it been since Vincent had ruined his life?

No. That wasn't fair. An affair took two, after all, but it was hard to be even-keeled when he was all but banished to this empty manor in the far north while Vincent was…

The last Allendale had heard of him, he'd been spotted with some niece or cousin of the Queen. He was like a climbing rose—a parasite.

Ah, but what good did it do to stew in these pitiful, miserable thoughts? Vincent had everything he wanted. The fame, money, prestige: it all belonged to him and more. This box only served to rile him up and spiral further into his depression. It worked, but Allendale had a tried and true method to forgetting the messenger and the ominous gift.

Yawning, he picked up the flowers and red ribbon and placed them inside the box, then slid it underneath his bed until it hit a wall. Out of sight out of mind. He changed into his usual nightwear consisting of his boxer briefs and a fitted tank top, laid on his bed, set his alarm, and closed his eyes. A good night's rest would help him forget or at least numb his feelings.

He dreamed of nothing, or at least that was what he felt waking in the morning with a long stretch and sleep in his eyes. Everything happened the same as every morning - light exercise, shower, eggs and tea. He packed a few extra biscuits in his satchel and walked out the door with his umbrella. A deep breath and a relieved sigh with the smell of petrichor and concrete, soft raindrops pattering against his umbrella. Today would be a good day.

In spite of his exile, Allendale still had a good rapport with his mother's family, namely a set of twin cousins who ran a successful pâtisserie spanning across the country, France, and New York City. Cassandra the business and accounting, and Liam the patissier; together they created their empire and offered a shoulder to their downtrodden cousin.

Hopping to the train, he made his way to Liam's workshop, put on an apron, and shaped the proofed dough for its final rise. He chatted with the helpers, having his first cup of coffee of the day, savoring every bitter note with a dollop of cream and honey. He greeted Liam with a smile and poured his cousin a cup the way he liked it: no cream with too much sugar.

"I'm not paying you," Liam said with a laugh, sipping on his cup.

"I figured I could work some shifts to pay a favor."

"Make me macarons and we'll talk."

"Not with this weather."

"It's just a fucking cookie, Danny. Don't let those baking blogs talking about how mango chutney reminds them of their dead nan from Wales tell you otherwise." Liam nudged Allendale's shoulder. "So, what's up?"

Allendale stared at the floor, spinning the band around his left ring finger. "Well…"

I read a few chapters and I’m hooked nona. It reminded me a lot of yana toboso’s twincest comic picrel. It also reminded me of a twincest/dadson story I was working on years ago until I realized I was just writing devil may cry fanfic with the serial numbers filed off kek!
You really have a way of writing mental illness nona, I was diagnosing the characters with personality disorders every chance I got. Also, don’t get mad but as much as I love twincest I kind of wanted Mark to get with the streamer bf kek!

Thank you so much for giving it a read nona! I'm very curious to see what you diagnosed them with, I wonder if it matches what I intended
Also it's a tragedy you stopped working on that twincest/dadson story, I would've loved to read it. Sometimes I write crackfic about my twin OCs having a threesome with their dad but through the lens of another character with a dadson fixation meeting them and fantasizing about it kek

Yeah, writing original stuff is so much harder than fanfic. The script I wrote in 2021 still isn't even finished. I always get stuck on one stupid plot point that ends up stalling everything. Some types of story are more straightforward than others though.

Working with an all fujo dev team has always been my dream. I've had a few projects in the past I've tried to work on solo, but given the scope of just how much goes into a game, it always fizzled out.
I'll put a ton of work into writing a game, developing the characters to all have depth and be interesting, planning dialogue trees and routes, making sure plot doesn't fall to the wayside in favour of romance and vice versa, and will even spend weeks reading and researching involved topics to help the themes and settings feel more authentic.
But then after that, I need to teach myself other skills that don't come so naturally such as art, game design, programming, and music. I even went so far as to try and study architecture for a pixel rpg so the towns looked good. And it burns me out having to tackle every single aspect of the game all by myself instead of being able to just focus on a single role in the development.

I would absolutely love to join your girl's team, but my irl life is too busy at the moment to give me any time to make a noticeable impact. I still wish you the best regardless. If you make this work, you're living my dream.

You could still join in and just chat about BL games or your projects I guess!

Let's do an art learning challenge! For this week, draw 2 pages of cubes and boxes at various angles (example included, drawabox is also useful), do ten total gesture drawings (lineofaction), and draw your OTP or otherwise as the attached pose. Feel free to post in the fanartist thread, or not at all, if you don't want to.

Deadline is wed the 18th! Have fun!
