So this has been confirmed by all my Chinese mutuals, who have told me how hopeless things have become there and it's only getting worse. In 2014 obscenity laws were passed in China that mainly targeted mainstream porn sites, but gay content was also included and targeted, forcing Chinese BL authors to use more 'flowery language' if they were writing something intended for an 'audience' in public, but on foreign sites (Western but mostly Taiwanese) they could be more free, still it was gradually building up to this, starting from 2022(according to my mutuals) the underground sites were removed en-masse, now the Chinese government even forces foreign companies to meet their standards. If you are a Chinese citizen who even writes anything about gay romance, you will go to jail for it

I personally never had a problem with OCs even when they are cringe, because a lot of times people are genuinely trying and you can see the creativity, there are oc that are better designed too and happen to have more interesting ideas than some of the characters in canon.

Who I dislike is the ones that use existing female characters as blatant self inserts so they can the canon girlfriend of the male character they are simping for.

You see horny posting yumes saying ohh this male character loves to kiss this female character's neck, when in canon they never even holded hands lol

OCs vary for me. It honestly depends how they are designed and their role in the IP they're being shoved into. If they are meant to become the lover of an existing character, I tend to dislike them on principle, but if they are a supportive or even a lead role as an observer or even an antagonist, I'm willing to open my mind to them. Even OC children of canon characters I'm generally fine with. It's all about the intent for me

Pro and anti refers to two stands in current fandom culture of what is acceptable or not to show in fiction. Anti is someone who is against anything that can be considered problematic (incest, age gaps, abuse,etc) and pro is someone who is in favour of anything problematic. But the labels can usually be something bigger, like discourse with headcanons, whitewashing, etc etc… The problematic things are just the more common ones.

This is the second fandom I've been in where a character that gets no lines gets taken over by people who dislike the most popular ship and becomes an annoying fandom OC. At least this time people are making their own content and not whining at fujos (well, okay I lied they still are LMAO), but still. You can also tell they're all projecting because the OC's Mary Sue/Gary Sue as hell they just have an excuse to do it since it's technically not their character.

There's no canon traits for the OC so you can't call them out on self-inserting, but it's obvious when they're given the same stock fanon approved awesome personality or exist to preach the author's views at the audience. It's so much worse when the OC is a canon character's love interest that you can't ignore for the yaoi anymore without someone making it an issue.
