>>15298>>15299Found an artist recently who draws a lot of BL Rance art, though not of Rance himself unfortunately.
Always cool to see gay art of agressively hetero properties.

Would you rather:
Have your ship have lots of fan-art but no fanfics or lots of fanfics but no fan-art?

>>15340>>15341Trying to get into FF14's fandom when nobody draws the pairings I like or writes them made me quit.
The fanfiction I did read was okay at best, but I would rather read those over 1000 player commissioned fan art that's yaoi but only of literally them and the NPC they husbando, as at least people who write can be a lot more appearance neutral

>>15327It's pretty easy for me to choose art cause I don't read fanfics for the most part. I also consume more content from asian fandoms than western ones and with text bubbles in a comic there's less text to put through a translator. I have on occasion put a pixiv or poipiku oneshot fic through DeepL but it felt bad because the AI would often turn one of the guys into a woman randomly and it just got stuff wrong in general.

>>15327I'm a petty bitch so excuse my somewhat off-tangent rant that is still nonetheless related to this.
I've always noticed that fanart always is the one that gets the most attention, traction, and is the most "influential" regardless if the contents of said fanart make sense or if the people RTing/Liking the art even know about the source material. As long as the artwork is good, people will like whatever they are seeing. It could be the biggest nonsensical crack of that respective series, but as long as it has "good" or "tolerable" art (usually in moderate qty), people will like it. Some people may even be driven to give that media a try because of the fanart they saw of X/Y ship too, even if that ship doesn't even exist or have anything of substance.
Fanart also always matters the most in general because asian fans don't really pay much attention (if not at all) to fanfic. A circle of friends in a japanese fandom who like a ship in a certain dynamic will have more influence between each other + other people that stumble upon their art vs random fanfiction writers that seem to be only exclusively liked by other english speakers.
I have never seen fanfics have that much influence over a fandom unless that fandom was for a western work or the only people influenced by a popular fic are all just english speakers.
With that in mind, I'd rather more fics than fanart purely because I wouldn't want fanart (even of MY ship) to be the basis of people's perception of that ship. What if someone I don't like, but is very popular as an artist, draws my ship in a dynamic that they absolutely are not or completely mischaracterize the two? A bad fic can be avoided and has no influence on anyone but a bad fanart that happens to be 'good' (in an objective sense of skill) can make people more easily convinced to like that ship in the wrong sense.
I hope some nonna maybe understands what my autism mean with all of this

>>15348I get it because that's exactly how I feel.
I know fanart basically is the JP fujo way but most if not all of the fandoms I like are western. I really don't care about BG3 fanart and as the game's writing matters much more than a picture of Astarion. There's a massive divide between the threads here as western fans seem to hate doing everything the doujinshi and manga crowd love. Like only following JP accounts with art.

>>15348>I have never seen fanfics have that much influence over a fandom unless that fandom was for a western work or the only people influenced by a popular fic are all just english speakers.I never considered this before but it makes sense cause if I try to think of an example fandom where fic seems more important than art the first thing that comes to mind is Harry potter. I was only ever casually into the books so I didn't read fics myself but even so I got the impression that its livejournal communities were quite bustling in early internet fandom and very influential.

Whoops, but still, I love collecting fanart, but it's rare it actually has a lasting impact ainces there's no story to it. I wish there were more sfw doujins, or at least doujins with an actual plot outside of the porn.

>>15327Rather fanart. I collect tens of thousands of pics if a series has as many. Fanfic is great too but the likeness of it being good and not ooc is way, way smaller than art meaning that I would have a smaller pool of shit to enjoy. Art usually just depicts a single scene or feeling so it's easier to stay neutral regarding interpretation, fanfics tell a whole story and stories are hard to make.
That aside ooc fanfic interpretations of characters seem likely to develop a life of its own since there are tons of fans that read fics of series they don't know and get their lore and characterization from the fic, not the original. The good fics I know are almost always from fans who drew before they wrote or at least fans who are friends and work closely with artists (usually artists who write as well).

>>15373FF15 is so funny to me because the first inkling of it I saw was in HIGH SCHOOL in a MAGAZINE then that shit dropped when I was like 30. I got the bundle on Steam for like $20 100 years ago but never got around to playing it. Despite being a fujo I really don't like "sausage fest" casts so that kind of keeps it in the very back of my backlog.
No.15375
>>15373ayrt, I did actually! I was like 14 or 15 when the pics of ff13versus dropped and was interested but I was never into final fantasy so I never thought I'd play it. I grew up poor so owning consoles and playing videogames was always too expensive for me. fast forward to 2016 and by that time I had a stable income and was more into videogames so when ffxv got released I thought sure, I'll give it a try despite not knowing shit about final fantasy. I'm still not interested in any final fantasy to this day, kek.

>>15374Same here, the waiting time was ridiculous. Especially considering how frequently they released FF games before.
>Despite being a fujo I really don't like "sausage fest" casts so that kind of keeps it in the very back of my backlog.I like sausage fests but the designs and the gameplay kept me from playing it until recently. I am not a fan of those kpop idollike faces that newer FFs tend to have. I unironically find Ardyn a million times hotter than any of the four main dudes.
Big spoiler though: the game is kinda meh. Sadly. Had some cool concepts but it feels like playing two unfinished games and if you don't do the boring monster hunt quests you can probably finish this in like 10h. I hope 16 is better but tbh I am rather looking forward to play the VII remake and pray that we will get some side-line games like FF Origin and Tactics which were way better than any of their main games after FF9.

>>15390Literally the coward's way out tbh I have seen my fair share of gijinkas along the way of different things, but I think that stuff like this is better on-model. On-model is always better imo unless it's something way too abstract like fucking, countryhumans I guess.
I mean, I'm sure TF girlies wouldn't want the robots to stop being robots and just draw anime guy that happens to have colors that match the respective transformer, right? It's like that. This reminds me of what happened in osomatsu fandom a long while ago where you had on-model osomatsu art / porn or bishiefication of the guys and most bishiefications were kind of lame.
Also, I do think you do kiiinda have to be slightly furry to like Wile E. anyway

>>15392>I'm sure TF girlies wouldn't want the robots to stop being robots and just draw anime guy that happens to have colors that match the respective transformer, right? So funny thing. They do have canon human versions of themselves. Only a few artists draw them though. More art of the bishoujo versions. But they are a thing.
Personally, I think it takes out all the fun but there's a considerable 15% who make fanfiction for humanformer variants
No.15394
>>15392Idk tbh looney tunes is too far for me but transformers/mech style are sort of okay if its wire play, robots are fine, Grace and Rocky worked, I'm good with monsters but furries are impossible though I can read that one japanese author that did girl from the other side ig.
However snakes and spiders are ok.
I am a complicated fujo…
No.15395
>>15390They're right in thaf they would have been humanized by default. I've been in the Looney Tunes fandom a long time and it used to be rare to find on-model ship art. Though it's been longer than 10 years, maybe 15?
Thankfully were past that, occasional speculative ginjinka are cute and creative, but I want the characters I love to actually look like themselves in fanworks. Human AU fanfics are even worse, you might as well be writing about OCs.
>>15392>Also, I do think you do kiiinda have to be slightly furry to like Wile E. anywayIronically I loath furries because they're just as bad in the other direction. Turning animal characters into bipedal freaks or taking a random talking animal character and slapping a six pack on them. How hard is it to just draw the character with the features they actually have?
No.15396

No.15407
>>15396No, I'm in a discord server where they had to banish Loony Tunes yaoi to its own channel because it was 1000s of art link spam messages every day. A quarter of them were humanizing them as very specific native American tribe members, which made me recoil because I thought that'd be culturally insensitive, but they were really excited about drawing brown boys with particular nose shapes and niche patterned outfits. Nobody was talking about body types because Roadrunner is athletic and Wile is, y'know, "why your waist so thin, so other men can hold it?" memes. At the very least we all know Wile isn't eating properly.
No.15408
>>15396Idk man I was in a fandom where it was only when an alien character got anthropomorphized (and thus made it go from m/m to subtle RPF) did a bunch of people change their minds from "ewwww interspecies ship" to "hawt yaoiz!!!!" and I had to deal with an onslaught of that until I stopped giving a fuck about the movie. I think it depends on the fandom, and a lot of people who watched the AcMe movie also grew up with Looney Tunes so those specific designs hold more of a place in people's hearts than if they just created these characters two years ago. Which then yes I agree people would've made them human because their designs are kind of ugly, but also a good portion of the fanart is ironic / for the meme and keeping them as their OG designs adds to that.
