>>3513I wish Mads Mikkelsen were cast as Grindelwald from the beginning, he's exactly what I expected from the character based on what we already know in the HP books. Whoever decided to cast Johnny Depp deserves nothing. If JKR herself wanted him in that role I'd be very disappointed in her, regardless of Johnny Depp being an abusive degenerate because I heard about his role in the movie before he got sued by Amber Heard and already avoided them on purpose until the third one got released. I wonder when we'll get more movies, I heard there were supposed to be 5 of them but I assume it's complicated based on, well, Johnny Depp's scandal, Ezra Miller's own criminal record, several of the actresses not returning or barely having screen time in the latest movie because they were pregnant, etc. I want more old man yaoi. Unironically.

My sample may be skewed but it kind of looks like HPDM is more popular with Western fans now, it seemed more equal/leaned towards DMHP before. I have an inkling it's because of one artist though I'm not sure; her art has a lot of likes compared to others so I'm sure it swayed some people.
>>3432Do you have specific tastes or something of the sort? HP is the only series I can reliably go to if I want good long fic so my experience is the opposite.
>>3501Not a ribafag myself but I can link some if you're still interested.

I used to ship the hell out of Drarry when I was a nubile young fujo. Haven't read a fic for it for well over a decade, however. If anyone has good fic recs I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not too picky, but I generally prefer slow burn/bottom Draco I guess. Need something good to read that isn't in my current fandom.
No.3979
>>3595>my experience is the opposite. That sentence was unclear, my experience is the same as yours. I meant when I'm in the mood for fanfic and can't find anything good involving my current interests I can go check the ol' reliable Drarry tag to see if anything new+long+good has shown up since last time I was there.

>>2202My favourite character is definitely book!Dumbledore. He is wise and mysterious and complex.
>shipI only came into the HP fandom to get more of that sweet, sweet Hogwarts atmosphere, so I drop a fic if its sole focus in romance. You know the type: replace Hogwarts with a modern school and nothing will change. The magic is very important to me. Sadly, many writers don't get what JKR was aiming for and suck all the mischief and secrets out of their Hogwarts.
As you can probably guess, I prefer the books, although the first three movies were good as well.
Mark my words: the HBO series will be soulless slop.
No.4586
>>4585I vaguely remember the fandom not liking the costuming/atmosphere shift (casual clothing instead of robes in many scenes) following the director swap after Chamber of Secrets. I agree that the first two movies have a better "vibe" but if you eyeball the length of the books the first two adaptations also have the advantage of shorter/tightly edited source material, so it's hard to say how much that lent itself to making a better movie.
No.4589
>>4585Maybe cause of a lot of miscellaneous things like omitting characters, leaving out or changing important plot stuff, (like in HBP the subplot being about Lavender and Rons relationship when that was barely a thing and wasting time on that instead of shedding more light on Regulus and Toms backstories, or cutting the scene of Dumbeldore meeting the Dursleys and replacing it with Harry flirting with some random waitress)
Also just some characterization changes, book Harry and movie Harry are completely different people
The movies still hold up and look just fine, but as usual the books will be better (this can be said for most adaptations)
No.4600
>>4585I only dislike some of them. I enjoyed the first 3 immensely, then they started to omit/rewrite more and more material as the books grew thicker. The atmosphere also changed, with a lot of magic and wonder being lost, so they were less immersive. The changed colour use to grimderp also weighed them down. I don't think the last two were well-directed at all.
>>4586The third one may actually be my favourite, cause the atmosphere, the humour and the original content just vibed with me.
>>4589>the subplot being about Lavender and Rons relationship when that was barely a thing and wasting time on that instead of shedding more light on Regulus and Toms backstoriesYeah, exactly. Focusing on the wrong stuff (as fanservice to who exactly?) while neglecting what people actually wanted to see (other characters getting screentime, action).

>favourite character
Going off the actual books and films, it was always Luna. Before the fujo brain-rot, I was shipping her with Draco, but mostly when she was imprisoned at the Malfoy manor (minus any rape)
>Favourite ship
It seems unpopular in this thread, but my ultimate OTP is Sirius/Remus. I also really liked Snape/Remus, but I read less of that now since most are usually tagged with other Snape ships with the Marauders. I don't really like most new fics because of All of the Young Dudes changing their personalities and appearances so much, but I did go through a lot of old fics from the other older fanfic sites and some from the internet archive. There's some great older Ao3 fics as well which are usually imported from LJ.
>Favourite book/movie
Prisoner of Azkaban. I remember liking Half-blood Prince too.
>anything else
I hate James/Regulus with a passion. Why is this a ship? I don't ship James/Snape but I can understand it so much more than James/Regulus. Regulus is 100% just a self-insert for most authors but at least I'd respect a blatantJames/Reader fic over this one
No.5184
>>5183>All of the Young DudesI swear this fic is like a virus that infected the entirety of the fandom. You can smell it on half the fics on AO3. I block the Sirus/Remus tag because of it, even though I do enjoy that pairing on occasion.
No.5194
Do those old websites that had collections of HP fics still exist? Does anyone have any links to them? I feel like reading old fics but I can't remember any of the names.
No.5196
>>5194I have not personally checked every link here (
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Harry_Potter) but fanlore is pretty good about archive links if they are indeed available.
No.5197
>>5194A lot of fanfic sites that have gone down were archived on ao3 so if you just set the date to before a certain time, you can usually find older ones and they’re often part of collections set for specific site archives.
No.5198
>>5196Sometimes you can get lucky and run the defunct links into internet archive and read some of those stories, but be warned; someone has to individually capture those stories, some won't work because the stories' pages weren't captured. On LiveJournal, your best bet is looking for communities for specific pairings or prior themed fests, though not all of them are accessible due to age. Sometimes artwork won't upload because the website they hosted the image on is defunct, some stories are behind log-ins or were just deleted. Still, it's sorta fun to find thr gems. Adult fanfic archive (
https://www.adult-fanfiction.org/) is still up and running and they some fics up there, though not usually the best ones but there are interesting ones there.
No.5200
>>5198AFF is largely garbage but some of my favorite fics of all time live there. I believe this was after FF.net banned explicit fic, so for a short while, everyone migrated there before they went to LJ. You really have to dig though.
No.5550
>>5549I know desaturated blues are a trend in shows/cinema now but I really dislike it for HP… the first movie was often darkly lit at times but still managed to feel bright and warm. Draco's hair is definitely something (derogatory) but the show looks decent otherwise.
Probably will just skim-watch when it comes out but it's nice that the books will be fully adapted.
No.5551
>>5550I'll probably try watching it with a younger family member or friends. I hope the blue saturation is only for the trailer and that they have warmer lighting in the show- it'd be cool if the blue saturation is only for the parts where Harry is at the Dursleys while warmer saturation is used for Hogwarts scenes. Also, I don't really mind Snape as Black because they could really, really easily make it that, in the muggle world, he was looked down on for being poor and black but in the wizarding world, he's disliked primarily because he's a halfblood (at least when he's very young) which would show how different the prejudices are between the muggle vs wizarding world and how someone like Snape was easily courted into the Death Eaters because they were more accepting of him…but that's only if the scriptwriting is competent and we won't know that until the show actually comes out.
No.5559
>>5549I feel like making Snape black was a calculated move to nerf any ship involving him.
No.5560

>>5559I think it was because Alan Rickman's performance was too iconic. Gotta make Snape completely different in appearance to make them distinct I guess.
No.5572
>>5564Yeah I thought the same thing, it's such a different take I think they know they can't replicate Rickman so they want to do their own thing, still wish he was cast younger.
Trailer looks fine, but the original movie in particular had such good set design I don't think they can match it.
No.5647
>>5646>Can you imagine yaoi content with a black Snape? Snarry has been dead among new fans even before black Snape and I think it has only put the ship deeper into the grave. I like Jeverus so black Snape is even worse for me because some people may claim that ship is racist now or whatever (if said fans even care about the TV series).
Some of the more "SJW-y" fans are already drawing Snape with dark skin but I doubt they're actually invested in him. There will be no revival of Snapewives.
No.5648
>>5566Finished listening to all of the audiobooks, I binged Deathly Hallows despite it only being out for a week, this guy was an amazing Snape

>>5646Going against the grain here and actually say yes. I think Sirius x Snape might actually get more popular because of it if Sirius ends up actually handsome. Actually, maybe Snape x Lupin might shoot up in the rankings considering they have somewhat of a back-and-forth in POA. I will not elaborate on this

It's funny that even moids are realizing Draco x Harry is the best ship, they are just making Draco a girl.
Same shit with Narusasu, a lot of them realized Naruto had the best chemistry with Sasuke and it would have been canon if straight
No.6069
>>6068It's always funny seeing straight moids have an "I understand why women are into this now" moment when they genderbend a male character. Same thing happened with the official genderbent retelling of Twilight.
