>>4531Oh I've been completely out of the loop and I haven't looked at /pg/ for a while. Care to enlighten me nonna?
No.4533
>>4531>but I'm a bit concerned that we're just going to retread the last 3 games. Has anyone else heard the rumors?I haven't heard the rumors but if they stick to the same basic formula that wouldn't surprise me in a 'If it's not broken, don't fix it' sort of way since that applies to other long-running franchises like Dragon quest and Pokemon too.
No.4534
>>4533Yeah, and I prefer 3-5 to the more SMT like early titles. My main hope is that they have a slightly more mature plot. 5's Adults vs teens is a bit eye roll inducing.
No.4535
>>4534It's a difficult subject for me. As someone who enjoyed the Ocarina of time 3D zelda formula and the Paper mario TTYD formula these series kinda lost me when they switched things up. At the same time I also understand why BotW became a thing and why the next 4 paper mario games weren't the TTYD formula again because sometimes a formula does get stale. As someone who got into the persona series in 2023 with the steam ports it really feels like 5 perfected the gameplay that began in 3 so I wouldn't mind if they kept with it cause I don't think I'd feel burnt out on it yet personally but I suppose it depends. As much as "I wish they were in college" is a stereotypical opinion now I do feel like japanese high school on its own is overdone.
No.4536
>>4535Interesting you should mention Zelda because I agressively dislike the gameplay of BOTW for being so different but it brought more people to the series so I consider it a net positive overall. I got into the Persona with Golden on Vita but regardless of when you got into it it's obvious Persona has small incremental changes not huge ones, and that's fine! Going back to P3 and not being able to control party members for instance, or P5s graphical overhaul and gorgeous UI every Atlus game since has followed suit with. You should always be trying to make a better game, but at the same time if it ain't broke…
I'm not one of those "Persona needs to have an adult protagonist" fans, but I think 5 just feels incredibly juvinile compared to the rest all of the except 2 have an "adults are useless" lens to them but 5 is the only one that makes it the central tenet of the game.

I'm not part of that earlier conversation but I've started looking into persona 1 and 2 as well. I'm the type of person who heavily prefers to play older games on original hardware but secondhand prices are too high for me so I'll just have to get custom firmware onto my PSP.
No.4556
>>4546Thanks for the tip! I did buy a secondhand PS vita some time ago for a bunch of the exclusives I was interested in and I'm happy to have two more justifications for my purchase.

so is the gay mod for p5r good?
No.4612
>>4532>>4533Take this with a large grain of salt, since everything I know is from a private IRC.
Supposedly they're leaning harder on the occult themes again, with a series of would-be murders that take place in a high school. The protag joins an extra-curricular squad again, sponsored by the police directly to enter a large dungeon that is based on the underworld.
The person claiming to know someone who went to the playtest said it was a VERY early beta and the game will likely not be ready until 2027. Most of the cutscenes were just storyboards. They also mentioned that Midori's 'leaks' were correct about the game's color being a bright green.
Seems most of the people in the US playtest were normies, so not much ended up getting leaked. I don't know how much I personally believe. Here's hoping some actual evidence slips eventually, because there were other interesting details I'd love to confirm.
No.4613
>>4612>other details i'd like to confirmlike what?
No.4619
>>4602it was just okay in my opinion. it depends whos romance SL you're planning to do. it's worth a download regardless
>>4612>Seems most of the people in the US playtest were normies, so not much ended up getting leaked.unfortunate
please share more info if you have any nonna! i'd love to know more
No.4620
>>4612>sponsored by the police directlyI know the english fandom would have a collective meltdown over this, so I'm sure it's likely real kek considering the p-team always involves police eventually as some form of good guys (kurosawa in P3, chie wanting to join the police, makoto also doing the same).
It's weird though that if it's true that there's not a single normie that knows Persona at all, really?
No.4621
>>4620>there's not a single normie that knows Persona at alli find that hard to believe. anyone with an even passing interest in vidya would have heard of p5 and both p3r and metaphor sold 2 million copies.
No.4622
>>4612> Midori's 'leaks' were correct about the game's color being a bright greeni mean, this was essentially confirmed in the 25th anniversary art with the random green paint bucket anyway lmao, i don't think atlus was being subtle there
No.4623
>>4620>>4621Imagine a group of people who are mostly involved in casual properties, or have a very passing interest to begin with. Those chosen went in blind and only knew they were being paid for a few hours of their time with a game (approx $200, which would attract anyone). It seems like the focus was on seeing the reactions from a more general population. The person who attended knew what Persona was, but didn't think much of it until the IRC member started asking them more questions. They're someone who mostly played gacha and flavor of the month co-op games, and thought they were chosen for one of those.
>>4620They said as much. A few who played mentioned not liking that they had to work alongside the police. Your initial navigator is a middle-aged cop who uses a drone persona to oversee the party, and one of your schoolmates is a Makoto/Mitsuru type who was employed by them before the MC arrived.
MC was described as having a blond bowl cut, and their 'underworld' uniform had a big puffy coat. His persona was a headless horseman kind of thing, and apparently unlike the other demons in the playable dungeon, it couldn't be fused with anything else 'for story reasons'. The battle system is a bit different, and now enemies have a 'veil' that you need to break with ailments or certain attacks prior to hitting any weaknesses. I hope this part is true, because ailments in P4/5 were mostly useless.
They also said the dungeon progression involved an investigation where you'd have to find clues about who was trapped in it, and who lured them there. The first boss is another persona-user, but theirs wasn't modeled for the fight. When someone disappears to the underworld a monument of them appears in the real world with candles, and when the candles go out the person will die. Heavy occult vibes. The investigations required evidence, and there was a stat called confidence that would go down if you were wrong when presenting it during the story progression.
Still all hearsay, but it seemed in line with modern Atlus' trajectory to me. That's why I'd love some actual confirmation, but with no-phone policies in testing, it'll probably be a while.
No.4624
>>4623god please no blond bowlcut that does not sound cute or appealing
No.4625
>>4624But we do have cute bowl cuts already in the Megaten universe, just make it black and I'm all for it.
>is persona was a headless horseman kind of thing, and apparently unlike the other demons in the playable dungeon, it couldn't be fused with anything else 'for story reasons'I wonder if this was just for the demo, I can't imagine getting far enough to fully engage with the summoning system, I wonder if it was just locked for playtesting.
No.4627
>>4623interesting. ty for sharing anyway
No.4628
>>4625Fusion WAS included, but they didn't interact with it much since they liked the main persona and it was enough to power through the dungeon without issue. Igor was there as usual, but they said the person with him (possibly the attendant) was a young girl who had bolts ala Frankenstein and was wearing mostly black.
You gained new demons by arresting them post-battle, but they weren't very specific about it since they apparently ignored that too.
>>4626>>4624Forgot to mention MC fights with two swords, and has a hopping idle animation in battle that was 'kinda cute'. This could make it better or worse, but they compared him to Ryo from Devilman Crybaby in general appearance.
I'm trying to remember what else is important enough to mention without spamming the board. The most notable social link was another student who is trying to become an influencer to bring business to her grandmother's street food stand. The link involved them arguing over it, and the girl trying not to let online pressure get to her. She had a 'cute street style' and pink gradient hair.
The victim in the dungeon was regarded as a piano prodigy, and the persona-using boss throws him in because he's jealous over it. During the boss fight, he transforms into full Gene Simmons makeup. The playtest ended once he was defeated.
No.4629
>>4628>Igor was there as usual, but they said the person with him (possibly the attendant) was a young girl who had bolts ala Frankenstein and was wearing mostly black. Not surprised, all the attendants and Igor himself, and even Viktor and Mary inthe Devil Summoner series are specifically named after Frankenstein characters. I wonder what will happen with Igor. It's so obvious that P5 was written around his Japanese voice actor's death that I assume the devs don't want to replace him no matter what
with the fake Igor having his own voice actor and are willing to just reuse his previous lines. So I assume the attendant will have more lines in comparison.
When is Philemon coming back?
>The victim in the dungeon was regarded as a piano prodigy, and the persona-using boss throws him in because he's jealous over it. It's basically like in Tartarus and the Memento then. Same thing with the police actively being involved in what's going on, there are always police officers or detectives involved in the series since P2 at the very least. I haven't played P1 so maybe that's also true for this game. I get being disappointed or surprised if playtesters don't know Persona but I know some Persona fans will seethe.
>>4623>Heavy occult vibesI'm sold. I just hope Atlus won't take too much time releasing the game so I can get it on the PS5, I don't plan on getting more recent consoles for plenty of reasons after that.

And this time, I'm not a poorfag anymore and I already have a PS5, so unless Atlus takes way too much time to release it, I should be able to play it as soon as it's released. Which means I will also be able to play the game totally blind instead of already knowing most of the plot before I can start in that case.

Dunno how many here are aware that the Japanese PSP version of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and the Innocent Sin DLC got a port of the PS1 translation and its own translation for the Innocent Sin DLC so anyone who liked the new UI and system tweaks of the PSP version can enjoy both and on the same emulator.

I visited Japan Expo on Friday. Some Atlus employees were guests on Thursday and Friday and I was working on Thursday so I couldn't go there earlier. I missed Soejima's live drawing and I'm still seething that the organizers keep revealing the most interesting guests at the last second, otherwise I would have tried to stay a bit longer and maybe I would have visited Paris as well. Anyway, I couldn't get anything signed because there's a lottery to meet most guests and get autographs, and I lost. I was late to the Persona panel in the afternoon because I had something else coming up at the same time, but not by much it seems and one of the interviewers later said they started the panel later than planned so I got somewhat lucky. It was mostly about Persona 4 Revival, here's what happened as soon as I went there (photos and videos were strictly forbidden and staff was proactive):
>they showed an exclusive P4R trailer about Yosuke in particular, showing his first scenes and a few battles with him as a playable characters
>the trailer had the English dub, it sounded decent, close enough to the original dub. However I assume Japanese voice acting will be available
>Soejima explained asap that don't worry, Yosuke remains the same as always, and still has no tact, isn't cute and is still as rude as ever. The crowd cheered and I assume it's because of some rumor or misunderstanding about Yosuke's lines changing a bit in P4R to make him less offensive which makes no sense since story will still take place in 2011 no matter what. See pic related
>lots of questions were asked by fans, the questions were asked in advance and picked by the interviewers
>Hoshino (I think that's her name?) said her favorite character is Kanji, her favorite game is P3, and she sees the P1 MC as a base for the next protagonists. She talked a lot about designs in general.
>Wada or Soejima said at the end of the day, when remaking a game, they don't want to change anything, they focus more on updating what the original game has to offer so they can attract new fans but still offer something interesting to fans of the original games
No.5772
(following the previous post)
>they also stated that at the end of the day, Persona is fundamentally stories about students, high school students. I guess that means the fans who keep talking about wanting adult protagonists later shouldn't get their hopes up. Even P2EP is still about Tatsuya but I haven't played that one yet>Soejima said he's working hard to make characters look memorable by observing people irl and finding inspiration irl, even by checking people in the crowd during the panel by giving as an example how he sees different fans putting back their glasses in very different ways. I'm surprised he didn't talk about fashion though>they asked who played which games, obviously P3, P4 and P5 were way more popular than P1 and P2 but that makes perfect sense in terms of availability even if we take piracy into account. P5R was the first game officially translated in French, and the P2 manga was available a very long time ago with a translator not stating that the series isn't available in France at all unless you import an American or Japanese PS1 and copies of the games, then P3 and P4 on the PS2 were hard to get and not translated. Persona and Megaten as a whole was very niche until recently. >when Wada thanked everyone at the end and talked about working hard on P4R and P6, everyone lost their shit when P6 was mentioned me included but we didn't get any information on P6I don't remember all the questions and answers and I hope the JE organizers filmed everything and will put the video online someday. Here's the trailer I talked about, they waited until it was dropped during JE to post it online:

>>5772I also forgot to add, when Soejima talked about what makes his character designs appealing, he talked about what's currently trendy in general, and gave "good looking men" as an example. We may or may not have cute male characters in P6, stay tuned I guess?
No.5774
>>5773>>5771>>5772RIP on the lottery, glad you were able to make the panel.
Good to hear Yosuke isn't getting toned down, he was the character I was expecting to change the most out of any of them, specifically the camping scene, but like you said given the time period the game takes place in it makes sense.
>Persona is fundamentally stories about students, high school students. I guess that means the fans who keep talking about wanting adult protagonists later shouldn't get their hopes upInteresting, most of the mainline SMT protags are students as well right? I wonder if they'd ever be interested more adult protagonists in the mainline games or if they just enjoy working with younger characters in general.
>gave "good looking men" as an example. We may or may not have cute male characters in P6, stay tuned I guessLeaked protag is cute so expectations are high.
No.5775
>>5774>Interesting, most of the mainline SMT protags are students as well right? They're not all students but they tend to be young. I can't speak for SMT1 and 2 (although iirc Aleph has a very weird backstory that makes him abnormally young?) but:
>in SMT3 the MC is a high school student>in SMT4 Flynn is 18 years old and all 18 years old has to go through the gauntlet rite just like all the other 18 years old in his kingdom so he's a very young adult but has a DLC high school uniform if you want because one of the NPC and final boss is a high school girl>in SMT4A Nanashi is 15 years old and treated as a kid by everyone around him>in SMT Strange Journey the MC is an adult but it's kind of a spinoff but not totally. It looks like it's only a spinoff just because it's not taking place in Tokyo>SMT5 as a 18 years old protagonist in his last year of high school>other spinoffs like Sould Hackers or Raidou Kuzunoha's games or Devil Survivor 1 and 2 have high school students as protagnists but it's usually not plot relevant at allMy guess is that Atlus is way more likely to put important adult playable characters or NPCs in their games than make them silent main characters. In a way, that's kind of what they did with Maya and all the P1 characters in P2. I wouldn't mind it again in P6 but it all depends on the plot and the characters themselves. Atlus keeps making a lot of spinoffs to have more money for their main projects, teenage main characters are good when it comes to marketing because teenagers can relate to them in the moment and adults can still relate to them through their own experience when they were younger. I can see them having adult main characters in more experimental games like in Strange Journey or Catherine.
>Leaked protag is cute so expectations are high.Same, I'm looking forward to seeing the other playable characters.

Though that being said, unless Golden gets actively delisted it's not like it would matter to me what they do to the remake.

No.6064
>>6061Even with Zorba/Louis existing, there actually isn't that much content with them either both in-game and outside. There's only like 3 proper artists doing stuff with them and it's super woobiefied uwu uke zorba
which I don't like. The other side are just your typical westerner that just projects on the characters.
The state of the fandom is pretty grim.

>>6063>dislike their female fanbaseI like to think they just think about their fujo fanbase more than yume fanbase. But their discarding of Goro is especially heinous. I feel like there’s a divide in Atlus where half of them want to promote fujo stuff and the other half are the higher-ups against the fujos. Or they want to have their cake and eat it too.
No.6075
>>6066Not sure if that fits with what you said but P5 was written and developed by the usual P3 and P4 devs, and the new arc in P5 Royal is written by a younger team that was trained by the P3 and P4 team (who also made the OG Catherine and Metaphor). That younger team is meant to replace the older one for mainline games if I remember old interviews correctly so there could be more fujobait in P6. At the very least I remember that around Catherine Fullbody's end of development and release date it was said that Atlus hired a lot more women than usual for this new team, so there could be actual fujoshi in there.
